Joanne Boyle Named Head Coach at Virginia

After six seasons as head coach of the Cal Women’s Basketball team, Joanne Boyle has stepped down to accept the head coaching job for the Virginia Cavaliers in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

During her time at Cal she has amassed a 137-64 record with the highest winning percentage (.681) in the program’s history. She had four 20-win seasons as well as twice setting a school record of 27 wins in one season. In both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 season, Boyle lead

the Bears to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament with the 2010 squad winning the WNIT title. She also lead the team to four consecutive NCAA championships (2006-9), including the program’s first Sweet 16 appearance in 2009.

Before working at Cal, Boyle worked as head coach for Richmond for three seasons and spent nine years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Duke.

Boyle’s contributions to women’s basketball will not soon be forgotten and she will be missed by both her players and fans alike.
