Baseball Sweeps in Carolina

The Cal baseball team will continue their road trip with three more wins under their belt after beating Kansas State 8-1 on Sunday, February 27, completing the sweep of all their opponents at the Caravelle Resorts Tournament in South Carolina. Cal starter Justin Jones dominated to earn his first win of the year and the Golden Bears’ offense raked with 15 hits.

Jones allowed an early run in the first inning, but found his control and kept Kansas State scoreless after that up to the seventh inning. The sophomore lefty finished with seven innings and one run on three hits. Logan Scott and Matt Flemer finished out the game, holding K-State to one run over nine innings.

Chadd Krist continued his phenomenal play as he led the Bears going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Marcus Semien, Devin Rodriguez, Danny Oh, and Tony Renda all contributed to bringing in runs as nearly every Cal player got a hit.

Collecting 29 runs on 39 hits in three games, Cal’s offense should be something to look forward to as they extend their road trip with games against University of San Diego, San Diego State, Oklahoma, and Connecticut in the San Diego Tournament beginning March 3.
